The Day I Learned What My Clients Really Need
This photo was taken on one of the hardest days of my parenting life.
I was sending my seven-year-old son off to sleepover camp for the first time. (He’s 20 now, but I can still feel the weight of that moment like it was yesterday.)
As his mom, every instinct I had screamed at me to protect him. To keep him close. To make sure he didn’t have to face that fear.
But I knew something else, too: the way to build his confidence wasn’t to shield him from discomfort. It was to give him the tools to stand on his own.
So I taught him how to share his story. How to introduce himself. How to let the people he met learn who he was. And then I let him go.
What This Has to Do with Speaker Coaching
You might be wondering: what does this have to do with public speaking?
Everything.
Because the same level of compassion, partnership, and empathy I brought to that moment as a mother? That’s exactly what I bring to my speaker coaching clients.
Here’s the truth: everyone is uncomfortable talking in front of people.
Even the most seasoned executives. Even the entrepreneurs who’ve pitched their ideas a hundred times. Even the thought leaders who seem confident on the outside.
Public speaking is vulnerable. It’s exposing. And it’s scary.
Just like my son standing at that bus, not knowing what would happen next.
My Job Isn’t to Do It For You
As a speaker coach, my job isn’t to take away the discomfort. It’s not to write your talk for you or tell you exactly what to say.
My job is to give you the tools so you can stand on your own.
I teach you how to:
- Craft a message that feels authentic to you
- Structure your talk so it flows naturally
- Connect with your audience in a way that feels real, not rehearsed
- Find confidence in your own voice—not someone else’s
Because just like I couldn’t get on that bus for my son, I can’t deliver your talk for you.
But I can make sure you’re prepared. I can make sure you feel confident. And I can make sure that when you step on that stage, you know exactly who you are and what you want to say.
Partnership, Not Pressure
What my clients tell me most often is that I make them feel supported, not judged.
That’s intentional.
I know how hard it is to put yourself out there. I know the fear of being seen, of being heard, of wondering if your message will land.
So I approach every coaching relationship with the same mindset I had on that day at the bus: I believe in you. I’ll prepare you. And then I’ll trust you to do it.
Because you can.
And just like my son came home from camp that summer with new friends, new confidence, and stories he couldn’t wait to share—you’ll walk off that stage knowing you did something brave. Something meaningful. Something you.
Let’s Build Your Confidence Together
If you’re preparing for a keynote, a pitch, a presentation, or any moment where you need to show up and speak—I’d love to help you find your voice and build the confidence to use it.
You don’t have to do this alone.
